Three Reasons New Tires Should Be On Your Christmas List

December 7, 2015 by Barb Peterson-Lenz

It’s December and we’ve already received our first two snow storms here in Manson. Snow of course means snowmen and snowball fights, but it also means that driving isn’t as easy as it was in the summer.  Winter storms mean poor visibility, snow packed roads and worst of all ice!  That means that now is a great time to have a look at what condition your tires are in–after all, they’re the only thing between you and the road… unless you’re Santa of course! 🙂

There are a number of benefits to owning well maintained tires.  Just to name a few:

Better Fuel Economy

Yep, not having the proper amount of air in your tires means you aren’t getting the MPG you could be.  For every 1 pound of air pressure your tire is low, you lose 0.4% of your miles per gallon.  That might not sound like much, but odds are you won’t notice your tire is low until it has already lost 10 psi.  That means you’ve lost 4% of your fuel mileage and that does add up over time.

Safer Winter Driving

Having  good tires on your vehicle means you have a much better chance of getting where you are going.  Properly maintained tires maximize the amount of surface contact with the road, and give you the most control of your vehicle.  Be prepared and don’t miss a minute of that MNW basketball game :).

Increased Stability

Having good tread depth is very important with snow, water, and ice on the roads.  Tire tread is designed to clear snow, water and ice from your tires–helping maintain traction.  For this reason its important that your tires have enough tread left to safely get you where you need to go.  When your tread depth is at or under (4/16th) of an inch, it’s time to start considering a new set of tires.

We hope everyone is staying warm as we enter the winter months.  Travel safe and enjoy the holidays!

To me, better winter driving is the best reason to get new tires around Christmas-time. I think that it really does make a difference when you are trying your best to keep your vehicle and safety in top condition. The last thing you want is to get into a preventable accident because you didn’t change your tires. Do you have any other tips about getting new tires?

Getting new tires for winter can help you to drive safely on the road. It will boost the performance of your car. Having a good set of tires and a regular maintenance can help you survive the winter season.

With the snowy weather right around the corner, I have also been thinking about getting new tires. I like that you mention how you can get the most control out of your vehicle with new tires. This would be great for those icy roads in the morning. Thanks for sharing!

I really like what you said about making sure you have the proper amount of air in your tires to ensure you’re getting the correct MPG you should be. I just got a new car (new to me) and I want to make sure I take care of it right. Thank you for the information about how every pound of air your tire pressure is low, you lose a small percentage of your MPG, which can add up to a lot.

I had no idea that getting new tires would bring so many benefits. Our car is already not very fuel efficient, so I need to look into this. I can’t even remember the last time we got new tires, so I’m sure the ones we have now are almost done in.
